Snow Closure Policy
Harvey and Ames Orthodontics follows the school closures of the surrounding schools. Our Moorhead office follows the Fargo-Moorhead schools' weather closures, and the Detroit Lakes office follows the Detroit Lakes schools' weather closures. As long as the schools are open, so are we. If the schools close for the day, so do we. We do our best to notify all patients as soon as we learn of any inclement weather closings. We do contact radio and television stations in the area to notify of our closures, so please listen to weather announcements in the media for closure information also. If ever in doubt, please call our office to verify that we are open before venturing onto hazardous roads. We value your safety!

Girl's Night Out
Harvey and Ames Orthodontics had our first booth at Girl's Night Out! We had a lot of fun and met many lovely women! Our team answered many questions about braces, especially about 3M Clarity clear braces, and Incognito invisible braces that fit inside the teeth, both of which are particularly popular with adult patients.
Many visitors to our booth signed up for their free consultation, and one lucky visitor to our booth won an exciting giveaway for a full set of Incognito braces!

Crest Oral-B Ortho Essentials
Hygiene Program
We are excited to announce that we are now participating with the Crest Ortho Essentials Hygiene Program. Beginning Monday, September 10th, all patients who begin comprehensive treatment will be enrolled in this program. Together with our partners at Oral-B and Crest, we will be taking a more active role in helping our patients maintain excellent oral hygiene while they have their braces. At the time of their banding, patients will be provided with an Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 5000 toothbrush which provides guidance on a brushing monitor to help our patients brush their teeth just the way dentists recommend. The brushing kit comes complete with orthodontic brush heads, a brushing timer, instructional guides and DVD, Superfloss, Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection toothpaste and Crest Pro-Health Complete fluoride rinse. We are truly delighted to be taking this step to contribute to the improved oral hygiene of our patients!
Along with this program, participating patients will also now receive a score card at each visit, called a Clean Routine Action Plan. Our dental assistants will give patients detailed feedback and helpful advice on their oral hygiene, and send them home with an Action Plan card to take home. The Action Plan helps give our patients a very clear and detailed picture on their oral hygiene, along with how to understand and make any necessary improvements. The Action Plan cards also provide rankings to aim for, and every Excellent ranking means not only beautiful teeth and an outstanding Clean Routine at home, but a chance to be entered in drawings for fun prizes at our office!

A Mother Goose Story Time Event
Monday, June 25, 2012 was an exciting day around the office. Mother Goose arrived in all her glory and brought her array of story time characters to join her in narrating or singing only the stories and songs she does so well. Day Cares from around the area came to the event. It was a fantasy morning and was enjoyed by all. A special thank you to Noreen Thomas for sharing her wonderful animals for the event (Lily, the sheep,a chicken, and a guinea fowl).

Meet Caesar, our Practice Therapy Dog!
Caesar is a rescued Pomeranian with a gentle temperament, who is joining our practice as a therapy dog. He will help us to make Harvey Orthodontics an even more welcoming place for our patients, by soothing, charming, and entertaining visitors. As much as we do our best to make every appointment as friendly and easy as possible, sometimes the simple affection of an animal can best help to soothe nerves, or simply turn a routine appointment into a great one.
Caesar will be joining us as soon as he is able, as he is currently recovering from surgery to repair his abnormal gait. You can follow his progress on our Facebook page!

Bring your family and friends to the Thomas' century-old farmstead for an unforgetable, yet educational, experience! From turning food scraps into compost gold, to using the latest tips and tricks from our local "gardening geeks", this fun daylong activity is ready to get you going. With hands-on learning such as the planting of trees to the bees knees and backyard chickens, this class is for you. Tour the organic farm, talk to local farmers in the know and find out great sources for local food. Bring your family and friends. This is a great day to go green and frolic in the fresh air. Fee includes a locally sourced lunch. Pre-registration is required so the Thomases know how many lunches to prepare.

Image Gently
We at Harvey & Ames Orthodontics are very proud of the excellent and responsible imaging services we provide. We are excited to be participating with the Image Gently project, which promotes thoughtful and responsible approaches to pediatric imaging.
As part of the Image Gently project, we will be offering to parents scorecards on which they can track their childrens' lifetime radiological testing exposure, to help them make educated decisions with their childrens' lifetime of medical imaging. This is especially relevent for CT scans, fluoroscopy, interventional, and nuclear medicine scans.
An excellent resource prepared by Image Gently is the brocure What Parents Should Know About Medical Radiation Safety, which contains a table comparing background radiation we experience daily to doses received in various types of medical imaging.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 the Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead Chamber of Commerce hosted Business After Hours at the Fargo Dome. The event was held from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.
